FAQ

A question that is often asked by friends wanting to contract in Holland is :-

I believe that I will have to use an umbrella company rather than my Ltd Company, if true what sort of % do the agencies normally take for doing this.

ans) Yes but you also get the 35% rule. The first 35% of your salary is tax free for the 1st 10 years (I think). Umbrella companies take upto 10% but will play around with expenses, so after all is said and done you'll end up with 65% + of your salary after tax which is about what you'd get in the UK. BUT you can first try Magenta or any of the agencies listed above, some of who do payroll for you at no extra cost!

A very good Management/Umbrella company is Sigma +41 327293070, 29, Rue du Temple CH - 2014 Bole Switzerland. Very good and very professional. Pretty expensive though.

For Dutch based payroll you can try AAME. They're a Dutch company based in Zoetermeer. They're pretty good and very reasonably priced. I've been very satisfied so far.

Chesterfield Management ltd po box 118 Salisbury House, Douglas, Isle of Man. Really good young company handling invoicing and payroll for contractors throughout Europe . Tel +44 1624 677948 fax +44 1624 677949 e-mail chester@enterprise.net (mention my name and get a 5% discount)

CHEAP Phone Calls

Various companies offer cheaper alternatives to the PTT and there are no set-up costs or costs per month except what you spend on calling. If you don't call in a month then it doesn't cost you anything. Most of them are cheaper than the PTT except for for local calls (as you would expect as they have to use the PTT local lines). One-Tel is very cheap but annoying. Sometimes you get connected and you can't hear the other side but they can hear you! With One-Tel & TELE2 sometimes the lines are engaged and you have to try again a few seconds later. I haven't tried any of the others yet. Prices correct as of 17th April 2000.

Internet Providers

I've used both Cistron & Demon both are fast, efficient & professional. They cost fl 30 per month. Demon offers 20MB web space, a fixed I.P. address and you can download your mail in the UK too.

Free Internet Providers
Free Internet access has finally hit Holland!  It's been very popular in the UK.

I've signed up for Move12 (Shell & World Online). You can subscribe online (if you can read Dutch!) and they do offer pop3 based e-mail (you don't have to write your emails online). Move12 gets my vote so far (the connection is a bit slower than Demon & Cistron)!

Wanadoo is also web based.

Freeler offers free, unlimited Internet access.  All that you pay is fl 5 as a one off registration amount.  There is no web space with it at the moment.  You pay (as usual) for the local telephone costs. NOT recommended! I've tried to apply twice and got no reply!
Visit www.freeler.nl

Also there's ZON  Call 0800 1229.  They're completely free but you have to use their web-based online mail system (like Yahoo). You can subscribe online (if you can read Dutch!)
