It's a lovely city. The town planners wanted to abse it on Edinburgh. A lot of the street names are the same, the climate is the same and Dunedin is the old Gaelic name for Edinburgh. The train station is the most photographed in the world! Unfortunately the only train that uses the station is a tourist train. NZ's trains are in severe decline.
Whereas Queenstown is the adventure capital, Dunedin is the stdent capital (they heard I was coming and took a summer holiday ...... ;-) and wildlife capital. I did a wildlife tour which included 2 boat trips and a visit to a penguin reserve. A couple of bays have been set aside for protected species including albatross's and penguins. Any other native animals there are obviously also protected. Man isn't directly the threat but species that ,the setllers intoruduced are. This incudes rabbits, stoats weasels, feral cats, rats and dogs. Until the settlers arrived there were no land mamals in NZ.
