Butterworth was my stop-over by overnight train travelling from Koh Pha-Ngan to Kuala Lumpur. The trains between Thailand and Malaysia have a habit of not connecting very well! I spent an afternoon here. Butterworth train station itself seems to have nothing in the area apart from a bus station and a ferry to Penang island. The trip cost 60 Malayasian cents or about 12 Euro cents and it was free on the way back! Not bad for a 20 minute journey. Didn't have much time to explore so I could be back in time for my train to K.L. Met some interesting people at the train station who were also stuck there!
